eta certificate

ETA Certificate for import is a legal requirement to import wireless products in India. Wireless Planning Commission, before issuing you this certificate, expects you to go through seven steps. In this blog, you’ll know about these seven steps.

ETA Certificate India is a requirement that has existed since the beginning of the last decade. However, other than a few pieces of notifications, no one really knows about it. Now that we are all stuck inside a lockdown and suffering from a low supply of wireless products, companies have no choice but to get them imported. As the primary legal requirement to import these products, these companies have finally started to pay attention to ETA License.

Are you one of those companies? In case you are, do you know the way to obtain ETA certificate? If your answer to the former is yes but the latter is no, we have for you the seven steps that you can follow to obtain ETA certificate for import in India.

Step 1: Search if you need to obtain the ETA certificate

Despite its importance, not everyone needs ETA certificate. ETA or Equipment Type Approval gives approval to not the equipment, but the frequency at which it works. If it works at a delicensed frequency, then you need to get the certificate. However, if the product is working at a licensed one, it would mean that it’s working at a frequency that already has the ETA – making it unnecessary for you to obtain any certifications.

Thus, first find out whether you need the license. To know the answer, conduct a ETA certificate search.

Step 2: Reach out to an independent lab and get RF Test report

Reach out to an NABL accredited lab that specializes in running radio frequency test on wireless products. Give them your product and obtain the RF Test report for it.

Step 3: Obtain the authorization from the company producing the wireless product

As an importer, you need to file the application for ETA certificate for import on behalf of the foreign company. To do that, you need that company’s authorization. Obtain it by asking them to provide you with an affidavit making you the Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) – the one who is going to tackle the certification process and its requirements.

You can transfer the AIR power of attorney to a WPC ETA consultant who can truly help you get the certification through precise steps.
